Brasília – Economic activity in Brazil grew 7.81% in 2010. This may be seen in the Economic Activity Index of the Central Bank (IBC-Br), disclosed on Wednesday (16).
Late last year, economic activity was practically stable. In December, as against November 2010, the expansion of the index was just 0.07%. The IBC-Br totalled 140.6 points in late 2010, as against 140.51 points in November. In October, the index was 140.05 points. In comparison with December 2009, there was growth of 4.07%.
The IBC-Br is a form of evaluating economic development and is one of the subsidies for decisions by the Central Bank regarding the benchmark interest rate, Selic. The index incorporates and synthesizes information about the level of activity of sectors of the economy, like industry, agriculture and services.
