Brasília – The ECO 2008 Global Environment Conference started today (29th) in Brasília, the capital of Brazil. The opening ceremony took place today at 8:30 am, at the National Museum of the Cultural Bloc of the Republic, in the Ministerial Area of the city.
Up until Friday (31st), discussions will be held on topics such as Peace and Sustainability, Climate Changes, Energies for 21st Century, Public Policies for the Environment, Sustainability Cities, Amazon, Environmental Education, Media and Environment. The goal of the meeting is to position Brazil as the centre of global discussions concerning the promotion of peace, the preservation of environment and sustainable development.
The presences have been confirmed of senator Marina Silva, in the Amazon panel, due Friday (31st), and the minister of Environment, Carlos Minc, in panel Public Policies and Sustainable Cities, scheduled for tomorrow (30th). During the closing session, on Friday (31st), the Conference of the Future will take place, consisting of 700 Brazilian children who are going to discuss the future of the planet and watch lectures by personalities such as astronaut Marcos Pontes.
The meeting is promoted by the Brazilian Engineering Institute (OSCIP) in partnership with the government of the Federal District and Atenas Research and Develop Institute.
