São Paulo – Today (22nd), in the Brazilian capital Brasília, the Brazilian minister of Social Development and Hunger Alleviation, Márcia Lopes, and the Lebanese minister of Social Affairs, Selim El Sayegh, signed a memorandum for social cooperation that provides for the promotion of actions in technical assistance, training, data management, and experience exchange between the two countries.
The document was signed in the presence of presidents Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Michel Sleiman, of Lebanon, who arrived in Brazil on this Thursday. The two countries are going to elaborate a project including actions to reduce poverty, social development strategies, social protection and inclusion, rights of vulnerable communities, among others.
The actions that have already been defined include a Brazilian mission to Beirut, during which the social actions of the Lebanese government will be analyzed. The elaboration of the agreement had been under discussion since March, the month of the 2nd Meeting of Ministers in Charge of Social Affairs and Development of the Summit of South American-Arab Countries (Aspa), in Brasília. On the occasion, minister El Sayegh visited a Social Assistance Reference Centre, and some of the procedures used at the unit have even been adopted in the Arab country.
