São Paulo – Brazil’s Tourism minister Carlos Brito and Saudi Arabia’s Tourism minister Ahmed Al Khateeb signed a memorandum of understanding last week in Jeddah to deepen bilateral relations and boost the tourism flow between the countries. During the meeting, Khateeb promised to work for a Rio de Janeiro-Riyadh air route.
According to the Brazil’s Ministry of Tourism, the memorandum aims at attracting Saudi investments in tourism. “This memorandum will make it possible to kickstart concrete actions to attract more investments to our country. At this moment of resurgence, our priority is attracting foreign capital, thus creating more jobs and developing Brazilian tourism regions,” Brito said.
The agreement also provides for exchanging data and statistics, holding joint promotional events, enhancing legislation in the sector in tourist facilities licensing and inspection matters as well as exchanging events on innovation, technology and other areas. The partnership will also provide experience sharing on the creation of the regional office of the World Tourism Organization (WTO) in Brazil, the first of its kind in the Americas.
Minister Carlos Brito participated in Saudi Arabia in the WTO forum “Tourism Futures – New Governance and Advocacy” that featured discussions on improving policies for the future of global tourism, lessons from the pandemic and how the countries can prepare for future crises. The minister spoke at the panel “Raising Tourism’s Visibility – Becoming Part of the Conversation Beyond Promotion,” where he addressed the tourism promotion of Brazil.
