São Paulo – Brazil’s president Jair Bolsonaro will speak during the Economic Forum Brazil & Arab Countries, which the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC) will host online from October 19 to 22. Vice president Hamilton Mourão will speak during the closing ceremony, and three Brazilian ministers will participate in the event’s panels.
Bolsonaro will speak during the opening ceremony on the 19th at 8:30 am (BRT). Brazil’s president visited three Arab countries – Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and United Arab Emirates – on a tour late last year. He was welcomed by officials and signed a series of agreements. Other travels were expected to take place this year, but the pandemic prevented them from happening.
VP Hamilton Mourão will speak on the 22nd, closing the event, which will run until 1:30 pm (BRT). The VP has proven to be an important interlocutor with the Arabs. He has visited the ABCC and participated in an ABCC webinar. Mourão visited Lebanon in early 2019, where he discussed the country’s free trade agreement with Mercosur.
The forum will also feature Brazil’s foreign minister Ernesto Araújo opening its second day of activities. The minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply, Tereza Cristina, will open the third day. Marcos Pontes, minister of Science and Technology, will talk during the second day. A series of Arab officials will participate in the event, too.
The forum is themed “The Future is Now.” The prospects for Brazil and the Arab countries in the new global situation will permeate the first day’s debates. On the second day, the topic is the new order in international business. The third day will see discussions around food security. And the last day will address environmental, social and corporate governance.
Officials, specialists, and CEOs
In addition to the ministers, the forum will feature ABCC president Rubens Hannun, special secretary for Foreign Trade and International Affairs of the Ministry of Economy Roberto Fendt, New Development Bank president Marcos Troyjo, Siemens Oman CEO Claudia Massei, ambassador Rubens Barbosa, Minas Gerais secretary of state Ana Maria Soares Valentini, and Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa) president Celso Moretti.
It will also feature the director of the Agribusiness Promotion Department of the Ministry of Foreign Relations, Alexandre Ghisleni; president of the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA) Ricardo Santin; and president of Superior Agribusiness Committee (COSAG) of the Federation of Industries of São Paulo State (FIESP), Jacyr Costa Filho.
