São Paulo – The first meeting of the Political Consultations Mechanism between Brazil and the Arab League will be held this Thursday (28th) in Brasília. The memorandum establishing the mechanism was signed by both parties last year during the 70th United Nations General Assembly. According to the Brazilian Foreign Ministry, such an instrument involves the discussion of international, regional and bilateral issues.
At the meeting, the Brazilian group will be led by the Foreign Ministry’s undersecretary-general for Africa and the Middle East, Fernando José Marroni de Abreu, with the Arab delegation helmed by the Arab League’s assistant secretary general for Political Affairs, Fadel Jawad Kadhum.
The Brazilian ministry said the agenda will cover the exchange of information on the political scenario in the Arab world and Latin America; the League’s office in Brasília; and an eventual visit from the League’s secretary-general-to-be, Ahmed Aboul-Gheit, to Brazil. He will assume his post on July 1st.
Kadhum has meetings scheduled with other Brazilian government officials and with the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce’s CEO Michel Alaby.
