São Paulo – This Monday (22), the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Relations issued a statement of repudiation of the attacks that claimed the lives of 155 people in the cities of Homs and Damascus, in Syria, last Sunday (21). The ministry states that the Brazilian government condemns the attacks “vehemently” and extends its condolences. Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the attacks.
“Attacks against civilians are barbaric actions that must be repudiated and met with firm resistance from the international community as a whole. No terror attack bears justification. There is no place for any manifestation whatsoever of religious intolerance in the world today,” the statement reads. The document relays the Brazilian government’s condolences to the victims’ families and the Syrian people, and reiterates Brazil’s support to the peace efforts seeking a political solution for the crisis in Syria, a country ”Brazil feels connected with by deep-seated historical ties.”
