São Paulo – The Brazilian federal government has “vehemently” condemned the terrorist attacks that took place this Friday (20th) at two mosques in Sanaa, the capital of Yemen, with a death toll exceeding 120. “The Brazilian government calls upon all authorities to abstain from taking actions that could lead to the radicalization of the political process, as well as to persevere upon dialogue as the path to solving issues relating to the institutional crisis of said Arab nation,” reads a communiqué issued by the Brazilian Ministry of External Affairs, aka Itamaraty.
According to the ministry, the political stabilization of Yemen is crucial to the Middle East, so that humanitarian aid to Horn of Africa refugees can be maintained, and so that religious extremists and sea piracy can be fended off.
The ministry remarked that in August of last year, the Brazilian government signed a framework agreement with Yemen in a bid to enable bilateral cooperation in areas such as training in human development technologies and policies, hunger prevention, rural extension, and social assistance and basic schooling programs.
