São Paulo – Brazil’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Itamaraty) announced the donation of USD 250,000 to the UN’s World Food Programme (WFP) to be directed to purchases and distribution of food and relief goods to the regions of Haiti hit by hurricane Matthew. The money will come from the international humanitarian cooperation budget of the Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC), according to data made public by the UN this Tuesday (18).
The WFP is joining efforts with Haiti’s government to help 800,000 people that were affected by the hurricane. Up until now, 50,000 people have already received food. In all, USD 120 million will be necessary to provide emergency relief to all those in need, with USD 46 million going for food only. In addition to the USD 250,000 donation, Brazil sent to Haiti 120 tents that will temporarily shelter 700 people.
