São Paulo – A ranking issued by the international consulting firm Grant Thornton shows that Brazilian businessmen are less optimistic. The survey is conducted on a quarterly basis, and in the latest edition, 61% of Brazilian respondents defined themselves as optimistic regarding the future of the economy over the next twelve months. The rate represents a decline of 25 percentage points.
Brazil has gone from second to eighth in the ranking, which covers 11,500 companies in 40 countries. According to the Grant Thornton partner Madeleine Blankenstein, the decline was expected as a result of the slowdown in economic growth since the end of last year.
The list of optimistic countries is topped by Peru, Chile, Philippines, Georgia, Canada, India, and South Africa, in that order. Brazil is followed by Turkey and the Emirates. The most pessimistic country is Spain, followed by Greece, Netherlands, Japan, Argentina, France, Taiwan, Ireland, United Kingdom, and Malaysia.
