São Paulo – Brazilian poultry exports yielded more than US$ 3.5 billion in 2005, there was an increase in 35% in comparison to the US$ 2.6 billion in 2004. The information was released today (31) by the Brazilian Poultry Exporters Association (Abef). According to the entity, this is an historic record value and consolidates Brazil in the first position amongst the poultry exporters.
Last year, there were 2.845 million tonnes shipped, as whole chicken, in pieces and industrialised, against 2.469 million in 2004, which means an increase in 15%. The main market in terms of quantities shipped is still the Middle East, which imported 848,570 tonnes, 12% more than in 2004. Revenue with sales to the region added up to US$ 955.2 million, an increase in 39% in comparison to the previous year.
In terms of revenue, however, the greatest market was Asia, which bought the equivalent to more than US$ 1 billion in Brazilian poultry last year, an increase in 34% in relation to 2004. There were 756,949 tonnes shipped to the region, or 20% more than in the previous year, and Japan was the main importing country.
The European Union was in third place among the main importing regions, with business worth US$ 728.2 million, or 35% more than in 2004. Following were Russia, Africa and other countries from South America.
For 2006, the Abef foresees that Brazil will hold the leadership in exports, with an increase between 5% and 10% in the volumes shipped and the opening of new markets.
