São Paulo – The Brazilian chemical industry exported the equivalent to US$ 792 million in May, an increase in 37% in comparison to April. There were 912,000 tonnes shipped, 59.4% in relation to the previous month. Imports of chemical products, in turn, added up to US$ 1.3 billion in May, an increase in 19.2% in relation to April. There were 1 million tonnes in purchases, 20.9% less than in the previous month. The information was released yesterday (22) by the Brazilian Association of the Chemical Industry (Abiquim).
During the first five months in the year Brazilian exports of chemical products yielded US$ 3.2 billion, an increase in 8.7% in comparison to the same period last year. Imports, on the other hand, added up to US$ 6.1 billion, an increase in 6.6% in relation to the period from January to May 2005.
