Brasília – Brazil filed a complaint this Friday (11) at the World Trade Organization (WTO) regarding the United States’ overtaxing of Brazilian steel imports. The information was made public by the WTO itself.
The Brazilian government claims that the USA’s measures are inconsistent with a number of procedural and substantive provisions of the Agreement on Subsidies and Countervailing Measures of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT).
Brazil’s request for consultations formally initiates a dispute in the WTO, it said. Now, the parties can discuss the matter and try to find a satisfactory solution. If an agreement isn’t reached in 60 days, the complainant may request that a panel be established.
