Brasilia – More than 1.1 million formal job positions were generated in Brazil last year. According to information from the General Records Office for Employment and Unemployment (Caged), released this Tuesday (21) by the Ministry of Labor, 1,117,171 formal jobs were created in 2013. During the year, 22,092,165 workers were hired and 20,974,993 were terminated. The result is lower than that registered in 2012, when 1,301,842 job positions were generated.
Last year, the creation of job positions in the services sector increased by 3.37% (+546,917 jobs) in relation to the previous year. In the commercial sector there was an increase by 3.36% (+301,095 jobs) and in civil construction by 3,44% (+107,024 jobs). The Labor Minister, Manoel Dias, is optimistic for 2014, and believes that salary raises and a heating economy will encourage consumption. Dias expects between 1.4 and 1.5 million new job positions this year.
