Rio de Janeiro – The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Brazil grew 0.9% in 2012 as against the year before, totalling R$ 4.4 trillion, according to the Brazilian Institute for Geography and Statistics (IBGE). The growth in GDP was sustained by the service sector, which recorded growth of 1.7% in the year. Agriculture had a drop of 2.3% and industry, 0.8%.
In the point of view of demand, there was growth in family consumption (3.1%) and in that of the government (3.2%), while in gross fixed capital formation, which represents investment, there was a drop of 4%. This is the worst economic performance since 2009.
