Brasília – The Brazilian National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) announced today (24th) that in May, 2.94 million new mobile lines were activated, representing growth of 1.63% over April. This year, the number of new mobile lines in the first five months was the highest since the year 2000. The total number of mobile subscribers in Brazil is 183.7 million.
The teledensity of mobile telephony, which is the number of subscribers per 100 inhabitants, was 95.2 in May, representing growth of 1.56% over the previous month. The highest teledensity in May was recorded in the Midwest region, with 114.21 mobile phones per 100 inhabitants.
Most mobile subscriptions (82.4%) are prepaid, whereas 17.6% are post-paid. Operator Vivo has the highest market share, at 30.25%. Next come Claro, with 25.41%, Tim, with 23.84%, and Oi, with 20.15%.
The number of consumer complaints about mobile telephony was 69,711 in May, 8,000 more than in April (62,600). The most frequent complaints concerned mischarging (25,781), customer support (9,092), additional services (6,261), unlocking (4,870) and promotions (4,038).
