Rio de Janeiro – The number of head of cattle in Brazilian livestock farms went up and reached the record of 215.2 million animals last year, an increase of 1.3% over 2014. The data was made public this Thursday (29) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).
The expansion seen in 2015 was the sharpest since 2011 and was a boost after the decline caused by the 2012 drought and the near-zero growth of 2013 and 2014. In a regional analysis, growth was stronger in the North (2.9%) with the Northeast posting a -0.9% decline.
