São Paulo – Brazil has become a permanent member of the ISO/TC 217 committee, a group in charge of regulating the worldwide hygiene, perfumery and cosmetics industry. The announcement was made early this month, and in practical terms it means that the country will be allowed to take part in debates and in the issuing of regulations for the industry.
Brazil is the 34th country to become a member and will operate by means of the Brazilian Cosmetics Committee (CB 57) of the Brazilian Association of Technical Norms (ABNT). The CB 57 is coordinated by the Brazilian Association of Toiletries, Perfumes & Cosmetics Industries (Abihpec). The country already participates as an observer. The next meeting of the ISO/TC 217 is scheduled for November, in England.
“Now, with the growth of the Brazilian hygiene, perfumery and cosmetics industry, the constant investment by companies in innovation, quality, safety and the steady work of the Abihpec in the international scenario, we may celebrate this important achievement, which will place Brazil for good on the decision-making scenario of regulation of products and processes, bringing various benefits to our sector and to the industries in the segment,” says João Carlos Basilio, president of the Abihpec, according to a statement issued by the organization.
