São Paulo – The new Immigration Law was officially issued one year ago this week. And now the federal government is looking to attract skilled foreign immigrants to the country. The project is being developed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and is set to be completed in the year’s second half. “We expect to be able to issue it [in the year’s second half]. It will be a decree co-signed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Justice and Ministry of Labor,” said Paulo Gustavo Lamsen de Sant’Anna, head of the Immigration Division of the Department of Immigration and Legal Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“We’re paying special attention, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to the regulation regarding the attraction of skilled workforce to the country. Brazil has never had an active policy for attracting these professionals, who are needed by every country for their development and that are highly sought after throughout the world,” he added.
The government plans to make it easier for these foreign skilled professionals to come to the country, streamlining the process. The government also plans to define, according to Sant’Anna, the “strategic areas in which this could be done.”
