Brasília – Brazil lost 462,366 formal jobs in December 2016, a decline of 1.19% over November, according to data from the General Register of Employed and Unemployed Individuals (CAGED) made public this Friday (20) by the Ministry of Labor. In 2016, 1,321,994 jobs were cut, a 3.33% reduction.
In the period, there were 869,439 hires and 1,331,805 dismissals in the period. The results follow the trend of more dismissals than hires in the Brazilian labor market. The number of jobs in the five regions declined 22.4% less in comparison to the same period of 2015.
CAGED’s historical series shows that between 2002 and 2016 negative results relating to number of formal jobs occurred only in 2015 and 2016. The highest number of jobs created took place in 2010, when 2,223,597 jobs were created. The following years presented positive results, but decreasing ones.
