São Paulo – The Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Relations informed today (26th) that the country’s government has donated US$ 300,000 to the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP). The funds will be allocated to humanitarian aid actions at camps in Tindouf, Algeria, according to the Brazilian foreign ministry (Itamaraty).
According to the ministry, the funds should be used in purchasing “priority items to guarantee the food and nutrition security of Western Saharan refugees living in Tindouf.”
The Western Sahara, a territory on the West Coast of Africa, is currently controlled by Morocco. The donation, according to the Itamaraty, will be attended by representatives of the Brazilian embassy to Algiers, the Algerian capital.
