Brasília – Brazil would have to invest 54 Brazilian reals (US$ 30.8 billion) to solve the bottlenecks in its railway grid. After that, trains would account for 38% of cargo transport in the country. The data were culled from a survey issued today (17th) by the National Confederation of Transport (CNT).
“In a country the size of Brazil, we would need 52,000 kilometres of railway lines, [whereas we currently have] 29,000. The sector remained abandoned during 40 years,” said the president of the CNT Railway Section, Rodrigo Vilaça.
