São Paulo – Scholarship program Programa de Estudante-Convênio (PEC-PG) is accepting applications, up until October 15th, from foreigners interested in receiving scholarships to sit masters and doctorate courses in Brazil.
PEC-PG is a joint effort of the Foundation for Improvement of Higher Education Students (Capes), the Ministry of Foreign Relations, and the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq).
Students from developing countries with which Brazil maintains cultural and educational cooperation agreements are eligible, including Algeria, Egypt, Lebanon, Morocco, Syria and Tunisia.
The PEC-PG aims to improve the qualification of university professors, researchers, professionals and graduates, so as to boost their contribution to the development of their respective countries.
Requirements to apply include proficiency in Portuguese language and being accepted to take a masters or doctorate course by a Brazilian higher education institution, public or private, graded three or higher in the Capes evaluation.
For the masters scholarships, the maximum financing period is 24 months and the monthly allowance to be paid to students is R$ 1,350. For doctorate scholarships, the maximum period is 48 months and the monthly aid is R$ 2,000.
The sums are paid for students to maintain themselves in the country, because the institutions involved in the program will not be allowed to charge monthly fees rates from scholarship holders. Students who successfully complete the course will also earn return tickets to their countries of origin.
The instructions on how to participate in the PEC-PG are available as part of the program’s manual at http://www.dce.mre.gov.br/PEC/PG/manual_PEC-PG_2012.pdf. Further information is available from the Capes by email at pecpg@capes.gov.br or telephone at +55 61 2022-6664, and from the CNPq, by email at pec-pg@cnpq.br.
