Rio de Janeiro – The Extended National Consumer Price Index – the official measure of inflation – stood at 0.21% in January this year. It’s the lowest rate since the implementation of the Plano Real in 1994. The rate is lower than the 1.15% posted in December and 0.32% posted in January 2019. The IPCA in the 12 months through January stood at 4.19%, down from 4.31% posted in the previous 12 months.
The figures were made public this Friday (7) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics. Health and personal care at -0.32% and clothing at 0.07% drove down the IPCA result.
