Brasília – The Chilean capital will host today (27) and tomorrow the International Agroenergy Seminar. At the event, experiments about the use of agricultural resources for the production of energy will be presented. The opening of the seminar will include the participation of Chilean president Michelle Bachelet, and of the regional director of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), José Graziano.
According to a spokesperson for the Ministry of Agriculture, during the seminar, minister Luís Carlos Guedes Pinto will give a talk about the current panorama, the potential of agroenergy in Brazil and the actions of the government for the development of the sector. Guedes will discuss the Brazilian Program for Agricultural Energy. The objective of the program is to increase the Brazilian participation in the production and export of biofuels.
The minister will also discuss the installation of an Embrapa high technology centre turned to the research and development of agroenergy. Based in Brazilian capital Brasília and with state and regional branches, the centre will develop research on sugarcane, cassava and oleaginous plants that may be added to biodiesel as well as other alternative energy sources.
