São Paulo – This month, the Brazilian embassy in Jordan will promote the Brazilian Gastronomy Week in the capital Amman. The dinners will take place at the hotel Grand Hyatt Amman from April 19 to 27. Around 120 guests are expected each night.
According to Francisco Luz, the Brazilian ambassador in Jordan, the week is being organized with the help of 12 sponsoring companies that will supply beef, poultry, coffee, sugar, juice, kitchen utensils, skewers and large screens, etc. The companies sponsoring the event are from Jordan, Brazil and also multinationals.
The Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce is supporting the event, providing the contact of member companies interested in having their products in the dinners. The companies Alca Foods, of breakfast cereals; Alibra, of dairy products; and Cavalcante, of peanut oil, members of the Chamber, already confirmed their participation.
“The idea is to promote not only culture and gastronomy, but also the Brazilian products. It’s to help our export efforts”, says Luz. The companies sponsoring will be able to invite their guests to the dinners, which will also be attended by Jordanian importers.
For the cultural side of the event, Luz explains that each night will have typical dishes from different states and regions in Brazil. “There will be food from Pará, Bahia, Rio Grande do Sul, São Paulo, Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro, Pantanal, etc.”. The menu is signed by Brazilian chef Alessandro Giorgio. In addition to the Brazilian cuisine, the attendees will watch the concert of Brazilian musical group Quarteto Raiz.
During the gastronomy week, top authorities of the Arab country will attend the dinners. In the evening of April 23, Jordan’s minister of Tourism, Nayef Al Fayez, will be present. On April 27, the minister of Industry and Trade, Maha Ali, will attend the event.
On April 25, there will be a gala dinner for 150 people to celebrate the 100 days countdown for the Rio de Janeiro Summer Olympics. Prince Feisal Al Hussein, president of the Jordanian Olympic Committee and the brother of king Abdullah II, the country’s monarch, will be the guest of honor. In addition to him, prince Ra’ad Bin Zeid Al Hussein, president of Jordan’s Paralympic Committee, and Moataz Al-Jueidi, weight lifting world champion that competes in the Paralympics Games.
Among the other guests are diplomats, local authorities and celebrities from local sports and art worlds. Ramez Goussous, the Arab Chamber’s senior adviser of Institutional and International Relations, will represent the organization in this and in the final dinner of the gastronomy week.
On April 22, Quarteto Raiz will perform for a 600 people audience at the Al-Hussein Cultural Center. The concert is open for the general public, with ticket prices set at JOD 15 (USD 21.15).
