Brasília – Brazil should have between four and eight nuclear power stations by 2030, according to the minister of Mines and Energy, Márcio Zimmermann. Three Brazilian regions are being studied for the implementation of the nuclear plants.
“We started the studies in the Northeast, to verify where there are sites for installation of the nuclear plants. Then we will head on to the Southeast and South,” said the minister on radio program Bom Dia, Ministro (Good Morning, Minister).
According to Zimmermann, for this, specific policies are necessary as is the determination of the technology to be used. “The study, to begin this year, should define the technical and economic viability and should analyse what site should receive the plant.”
The minister informed that the works for construction of nuclear plant Angra 3 have already returned. “It took over ten years for a decision to be made. The construction of the mill was continued, it is in construction and should start operating in 2015.”
