Brasília – The Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture prohibited this week the importation of chicken and by-products from the United States. The preventive measure is intended to keep avian influenza (“bird flu”) from entering Brazil. An outbreak of the disease was identified in the United States on Saturday (7).
According to the Ministry, it has not yet been determined how long the measure will remain in force. The United States should present information on the outbreak to the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) in the next few days.
