São Paulo – During the trip of the Brazilian minister of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade, Miguel Jorge, to Algeria, today (15th) and tomorrow, the manager of market relations at the Brazilian Poultry Farming Union (Ubabef), Adriano Zerbini, who is on the mission, intends to discuss, with Algerian authorities, technical barriers that prevent sales of Brazilian poultry to the Arab country.
According to the organization, Zerbini stated that Brazil does not compete with local farmers, therefore "we believe that it will be possible to negotiate the lifting of these protectionist barriers," which do exist, according to the Ubabef, even though the market is formally open to the Brazilian product.
"We want to expand and diversify the markets to which we have access in the [African] continent, and Algeria is one of our main targets," said Zerbini, according to a release issued by the organization.
Brazilian poultry exports generated US$ 616 million in revenues in August, representing growth of 18% over the same month of 2009, according to the Ubabef. From January to August, foreign sales reached US$ 4.4 billion, representing growth of 17%.
