São Paulo – Brazil’s minister of Mines and Energy Bento Albuquerque and his Saudi counterpart, prince Abdulaziz bin Salman Al Saud (pictured above), spoke on the phone last Sunday (5). Albuquerque told Al Saud that Brazil is ready to join G20 discussions regarding the international oil market.
The Brazilian Ministry said the Saudi minister asked whether Brazil would be inclined to embark upon concerted international efforts to find mechanisms to stabilize the market. Al Saud called on Brazil to take part in G20 discussions of the subject.
According to the Brazilian Ministry, Albuquerque complimented Al Saud on his efforts to build a coalition to discuss such a crucial subject to all parties involved, especially at a time of great challenges such as this. Saudi Arabia is working on getting countries to agree on production cuts to support international oil prices.
According to the Brazilian Ministry of Mines and Energy, the phone call was very constructive. The ministers shared impressions regarding the Covid-19 pandemic crisis, and especially its repercussions on global oil markets. The G20 comprises the world’s leading economies, including Brazil. Saudi Arabia is currently in the group’s presidency.
Energy ministers from G20 member countries are expected to confer online next Friday (10).
