Brasília – Brazil is the country that will grow the most after the crisis, and will generate employment proportionally, said today the Brazilian minister of Finance, Guido Mantega. “This year, we will have the lowest unemployment rate since records started being kept.”
According to the minister, the employment rate should rise by 6.5%, and the average estimate for coming years is 5.5%. Mantega attended the meeting of the Economic and Social Development Council (CDES).
He said once again that economic stimulus measures adopted during the crisis, which struck the country in late 2008, yielded excellent results and enabled the country to return to pre-crisis levels. According to him, the economy is "virtually" booming and nearly all of the stimuli have been withdrawn.
"Now that the result has been attained, we are withdrawing almost all of the stimuli. Thus, we are headed towards more sustainable, balanced growth by the end of the year," he said.
Another figure presented by the minister shows that the total of new jobs in 2010 should reach 2 million, of which 962,000 were created by April. At 6.8% of the economically active population, the unemployment rate is considered the lowest ever.
"Proportionally, Brazil was the country that created the most jobs worldwide, in a sufficient amount to serve our youths who are arriving at the labour market," he added. The information takes into account the last eight years.
