Cairo – Representatives of Egyptian chemical industries will head on a mission to Brazil in June this year, organized by the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC) and the Chemical Export Council (CEC). The regional director of the ABCC’s office in Cairo, Michael Gamal, announced the initiative in the seminar “Mechanisms for Penetration in Export Markets” (pictured above), held this week by the council in the Egyptian capital.
At the seminar, Gamal presented the Brazilian chemicals market and said Brazil is the third biggest agricultural producer in the world and, therefore, a consumer and importer of fertilizers, pesticides, and farming supplements. The purpose of the mission to Brazil will be to hold direct meetings between Egyptian exporters and Brazilian importers to explore this market.
Gamal recalled the ABCC office in Cairo received, in May last year, the then Brazilian Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, and Food Supply, Marcos Montes, accompanied by the leading Brazilian importers of fertilizers, and a meeting was held on the occasion with Egyptian fertilizer companies, which resulted in the signing of export agreements.
Egypt-Brazil trade
Gamal spoke to seminar participants about the significant expansion of Egyptian exports to the Brazilian market after the free trade agreement between Egypt and Mercosur entered into force in 2017. Egyptian sales to Brazil increased from USD 140 million that year to over USD 600 million last year.
According to the director, the Brazilian market can absorb large amounts of Egyptian products in different sectors. He recalled the population of Brazil exceeds 212 million people, representing an opportunity. According to Gamal, the Brazilian market is promising, not only for chemicals and fertilizers but also for Egyptian garlic in large amounts in the country and expressive volumes of citric fruits, medicinal plants, aromatic plants, and dates.
