São Paulo – The Brazilian economy should receive US$ 2 trillion in investment over the next four years, according to Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES) president Luciano Coutinho. He said that, with this, the level of investment in the country should reach 23% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Today, it is not even 20%.
"The total investment projected for the Brazilian economy up to 2014 is US$ 2 trillion," said Coutinho today (22), at the opening of the 1st Brazil-China Forum, in the city of São Paulo. "What is not lacking is a firm investment perspective for the future."
According to Coutinho, of this total, half has already been mapped by the BNDES. The investment should be made in several sectors of the economy.
At his talk at the event, Coutinho said that increasing investment is one of the challenges to the growth of Brazil. He said, however, that he is optimistic about the country GDP growing 5% a year over the next five years.
Coutinho also pointed out as a challenge the fight against inflation and stated that the government would not allow price elevation above the Central Bank target (4.5% a year, with a 2 point margin up or down). "The government is aware and should not allow the propagation of inflation to threaten the target regime," he said.
