São Paulo – The UAE-Brazil Political Consultations Committee convened on Monday (2) in Abu Dhabi and officials said both countries are willing to step up and improve cooperation, Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported. The meeting took place at the headquarters of the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in Abu Dhabi.
The UAE delegation was led by the assistant minister for Human Rights and International Law at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ahmed Abdul Rahman Al Jarman. The Brazilian delegation was headed by the undersecretary general for Africa and the Middle East at the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Fernando José Marroni de Abreu.
Abreu’s trip to the UAE is part of a Middle East tour whose schedule included visits to Oman, Iraq, Kuwait, Bahrain and the UAE, from June 24 to July 2. A political consultation meeting in Kuwait was reported on by ANBA on Monday.
During the meeting in Abu Dhabi, officials discussed ways to enhance bilateral ties and cooperation. WAM quoted Jarman as lauding steps forward in relations while affirming a desire to strengthen them further. The Brazilian delegation conveyed similar intentions.
The Brazilian officials complimented the UAE’s widespread development in politics, economics, culture and society, and the fact that the country is a major economic and commercial hub and a destination for international and regional companies. WAM also quoted them as stressing the UAE’s leadership in infrastructure, alternative energies and sustainable development.
Jarman said both countries must benefit from the growth of their economies, as well as encourage visits by official delegations. He emphasized the need for coordinated work on regional and international issues of mutual interest with the United Nations and its agencies.
According to WAM, the parties presented their efforts in countering terrorism and extremism and seeking solutions to worsening crises in the region. At the end of the meeting, they agreed on the need to enhance and consolidate cooperation to achieve mutual goals and interests.
As per a statement released by the Brazilian Foreign Ministry on June 22, prior to the start of the Middle East mission, political consultations are intended to build dialogue on bilateral, regional and international issues of common interest, favoring mutual understanding and international cooperation.
According to the Brazilian Foreign Ministry, Brazil sustains good relations with all Gulf countries, and the consultation meetings are intended to build cooperation and friendship even further.
