São Paulo – Agribusiness exports reached US$ 2.782 billion in February, a historic record for the month and 23.4% more than the value exported in the same period in 2004. The surplus was US$ 2.398 billion, with a 25% increase over the result obtained in February 2004. Sector imports totalled US$ 384 million, an increase of 14.5%.
The positive performance was mainly due to the growth of meat exports (29.6%); sugar and alcohol (77.6%); wood and wooden products (36.4%); paper and cellulose (39.3%); coffee, tea, mate tea and spices (50.2%); juices and fruit (206.5%).
