São Paulo – The Brazilian Foreign Office (Itamaraty) disclosed today (5th) that the Brazilian Foreign Minister, Celso Amorim, should meet tomorrow, in Geneva, Switzerland, with the minister of Foreign Affairs of the Palestinian National Authority (PNA), Riad Malki.
According to the Brazilian Foreign Office, they are going to proceed with talks regarding “bilateral themes” and about the peace process between Israel and Palestine, which started during the visit of the president of the PNA, Mahmoud Abbas, to Brazil in November 2009.
The government of Brazil has been seeking greater participation as a mediator in the conflict in the Middle East. Little before Abbas’ visit, the president of Israel, Shimon Peres, visited Brazil, and a few days later it was the turn of the Iranian president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, to visit the country.
The conflict was also the theme of the meeting that the Foreign Minister of Brazil had with Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak during the last weekend of December, in Cairo. Amorim is in Turkey today.
