São Paulo -Arabian, Half-Arabian, and Anglo-Arabian horse breeders in Brazil may use a new and modern genealogic registration structure for their animals. The Brazilian Arabian Horse Breeders Association (ABCCA) investment in equipment for their Stud Book, the organization department responsible for all the breed documents, accelerates information processing and service. Soon it will be possible for breeders to do all their communication with the organization on the Internet.
The Stud Book registers births, coverings, deaths, sales, property transfer, and castration, among other occurrences that determine the genealogic tree of animals throughout Brazilian breeding.
Through the online system, which may be accessed via the ABCCA web site, the breeder can visualize all documentation regarding breeding farms and horses. After the documents have been sent, in less than five working days, the animal certification of registration will be available on the Internet and, 20 days later at the latest, they will be delivered to the breeder by mail.
According to João Roberto Sorvilo, financial and administrative vice president of the ABCCA, the acquisition of a latest generation server for the electronic system, and the installation of a telephone centre for personalized contact, has increased the information processing speed and document issue.
"Investment in technology for animal registration represents a benefit for the breeder and is a reflex of the ABCCA interest in consolidating Arabian horse breeding as an important business sector in the country," explains Sorvilo. "A positive aspect is that globalisation currently helps in everything," he completes.
Covering communication, as well as the communication of deaths, castration, and animal sales, can already be inserted in the system by the breeder himself. To guarantee information confidentiality, access is protected by a password that controls user entry.
As some of the modules are already well into the testing phase, it will soon be possible for the breeder to exchange information and documents with members in a 100% computerized system, all via internet.
To include breeders from all over the country and from the most varied Brazilian realities, written exchanges via mail will still be maintained. "Our interest is to keep breeders aware of what is going on with the breed. Apart from sending a series of letters, circulars, and now making information available on the association web site, we have a two monthly magazine about Arabian horses," explains Sorvilo.
International renown
Brazil has around 9,000 Arabian horse breeders, plus another 18,000 users and a total of over 49,000 animals in more than 3,500 breeding farms. Considered one of the best in the world, Brazilian Arabian horse breeding has been receiving growing attention from buyers and foreign investors.
Due to the beauty and performance of the Brazilian lineage, Arabian horses have won international awards and reached high prices on the domestic and foreign markets. The breed, in the country for over 173 years, moves millions of dollars in the economy every year.
Arabian horses are multi functional, being much used in cattle farming, as they show good performance in the function. The breed is very resistant in sport, especially in long distance competitions, such as races, endurance competitions, and jumping. It is also the most recommended breed for children as it is calm and docile.
