São Paulo – For four years, Bolsa de Arte, an art gallery from Porto Alegre, has been participating in Art Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates. The gallery exhibits canvases, sculptures, paintings, photographs and videos by contemporary Brazilian artists and, apart from showing the work of these artists, also does business, selling the products it takes during and after the fair.
"We already sell much to the whole world,” said Marga Pasquali, the owner of Bolsa de Arte. According to her, the Bolsa de Arte products have already been sold to collectors in places like China, India, Singapore, Oman, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Kazakhstan, the United Arab Emirates, Germany, the United States and France.
"Dubai is very international and attracts and greater and greater volumes of people to the fair,” said Pasquali. Art Dubai has the support of Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai, as well as vice president and prime minister of the Emirates. In 2012, the exhibition counted on 75 galleries from 32 countries.
When asked whether there is good space for Brazilian art in the Emirates, Pasquali says that "if it is good, art is art, so it does not matter where it was born”. "Art is free from that (no matter where it is produced). This work is necessary to break barriers. It is only a matter of expanding horizons. People need to know it to like it, then you have the possibility of establishing a new group of admirers. It is all a matter of time,” she explained.
According to her, the years participating in the fair in Dubai have made some Brazilian artists renowned in the emirate. Among them are Saint Clair Cemin, Nelson Leirner, Nelson Wilbert, Carlos Vergara and José Bechara.
Bolsa de Arte participates in the fair in Dubai with a 60 square meter stand, at which between 50 and 60 products are exhibited. Apart from the fair in the Emirates, the gallery from Rio Grande do Sul also exhibits at an event in Miami, in the United States, each year. The next edition of Art Dubai should take place from March 20 to 23, 2013.
Established in 1980, in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Bolsa de Arte works with over 30 artists. In three decades in operation, the gallery has already promoted 250 exhibitions.
