São Paulo – Brazilian athletes to dispute the Youth Olympic Games, to take place from August 14th to 26th, in Singapore, should practice in Dubai, in the United Arab Emriates. The training takes place from August 2nd to 10th, according to information supplied by the Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB). Brazil should participate with 70 athletes.
The Youth Olympic Games should bring together 3,600 athletes to compete in 26 categories. They are aged from 14 to 18 and are from 205 countries. Brazil has already defined the athletes for 15 modalities. But the country has 75 positions guaranteed in 17 modalities.
"It is fundamental for us to bring together a large part of the delegation in the same place to adapt to the jet lag, so that we may get to Singapore in optimum conditions,” explained the head of the Brazilian delegation, Adriana Behar. Representatives of the COB should travel to Dubai in advance to inspect installations that the Brazilians are going to use to get ready for the Games.
The Youth Olympic Games are divided into three different age groups according to the modality. There should be a total of 27 competitions for athletes aged 15 to 16, 111 disputes for athletes aged 16 to 17 and 63 for athletes aged 17 to 18.
