São Paulo – Brazilian beef exports increased in 12.5% during the month of February and yielded US$ 215.4 million, against 191.4 million in the same month last year. There were 158,800 tonnes shipped, which represented an increase in 2.8% over the same period in 2005, according to information released today (09) by the Brazilian Beef Industry and Exporters Association (Abiec).
From January to February this year external sales yielded US$ 463.2 million, an increase in 20.2% over the same period last year. The volume shipped, in turn, added up to 338,700 tonnes during the first two months of the year, 7% more than in the same period in 2004.
The main importer of in natura beef from Brazil in February was Russia, which bought US$ 43.6 million, followed by Egypt with US$ 11.8 million and Italy, with US$ 9.2 million.
As well as Egypt, another four Arab countries are amongst the main purchasers of Brazilian beef: Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Iraq and Lebanon. These three last ones imported together last month US$ 1.3 million in industrialised beef.
