Rio de Janeiro – The Consumer Confidence Index (ICC) measured by Getúlio Vargas Foundation (FGV) has presented new reduction, the fourth running, reaching 120.4 points in August, as against 121.6 in July. With the result, the index, which is monthly, is close to its all-time lowest level, of 116 points, registered in January. The figures were presented on Friday (24) by FGV.
In April, the index reached a historic figure, at 128.7 points, the peak level since the index started being calculated, in October 2005. The annual figures also exceed those verified between August and December 2011.
The result reflects both the way in which families researched see the current situation, through the Current Situation index, and perspectives of those consumers for coming months, through the Expectation index.
These indices were, respectively, at 133.5 and 113 points in August. There was a reduction as against the current confidence, at 135.4 points in July, but a small recovery in projections for the following months, which were at 112.7 points, interrupting the reduction recorded in April this year.
The research, according to FGV, took place in over 2,000 homes in the seven main Brazilian capitals, from August 1st to August 21st.
