Brasília – The agricultural crop forecast for this year is forecast to be up 1.5% from 2013, as a result of higher average outputs for 15 of the 26 main products surveyed, cereals, leguminous plants and oleaginous plants. The survey released this Thursday (8th) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE, in the Portuguese acronym) highlights the seed cotton harvest, which will be up 23.5% from 2013; hulled rice (7.7%) and first crop potato (7.5%).
Other highlights include Canephora coffee bean (14.9%) and onion (13.9%). First-crop bean output will be 55.5% higher and second-crop bean will be up 12.2%. Soybean production will be 6.3% higher. The 11 products whose output will decline include first-crop hulled peanuts (-17.8%), second-crop hulled peanuts (-7.2%) and oat grain (-2.5%). The output will also decline for cocoa bean (-2.8%), Arabica coffee bean (-12.0%) and first-crop maize (-8.5%).
