São Paulo – Next March 18, the most famous design competition, IF Design Awards, in Hanover, Germany will take place. At the ceremony, considered the "Oscar of design," 18 Brazilian products by 15 Brazilian companies will receive awards, bringing Brazil to equal standing with other countries that have great names in design, among them Italy, Japan, and the United States, informed the Development Ministry, in a press release.
The Brazilian performance in this edition of the competition was the best ever. With this prominence, the chances of Brazil becoming a centre of excellence in development and production of high added value goods and services increases, consolidating the "Brazilian brand" in foreign trade.
This result is the fruit of project Design Excellence Brazil, a partnership between the Development, Industry, and Foreign Trade Ministry, the Brazilian Export Promotion Agency (Apex), and the Brazil-Germany Chamber of Commerce, and the objective is to stimulate and promote international recognition of Brazilian design.
The project proposed the creation of collective Brazilian participation and, depending on the size of the company, covered registration, shipping, and product exhibition cost: 50% for large companies, 70% for medium companies, and 90% for small companies. Due to this initiative, the number of Brazilians receiving awards this time round has had a 10-fold increase in comparison to the latest editions of the event.
