São Paulo – Brazilian women’s beach volleyball duo Carol Solberg and Bárbara Seixas won the Doha Challenge stage in the Qatari capital this Sunday (8). This was the second time the two have won the gold medal in this kind of tournament in 2022. In Qatar’s capital city, the Brazilians won by 2-0 (21/13 and 21/13) over the Germans Laboureur and Schulz.
According to the Brazilian Volleyball Confederation (CBV), the Challenge is part of the Pro Tour, which adopted a new format and also features the Elite 16 and Future stages. Elite matches bring together the top 12 in the rankings and four duos from qualifying, totaling 16 teams. An essential tournament to add points in the ranking and compete for a place in the Elite, the Challenges – like the one in Doha – have 24 duos in the main tournament and eight from qualifying, summing 32. The Future stage, focused on developing the sport and athletes, will have 16 teams in the main draw and 16 in qualifying.
Bárbara and Carol had already won the first Challenge stage in Tlaxcala, Mexico. With the duo’s two gold medals, Brazil already has six in the season, with Talita and Rebecca, bronze in the Elite stage of Rosarito (Mexico); George and André Stein, and Andressa and Vitória, gold and bronze, respectively, in the Brazilian Challenge in Itapema (state of Santa Catarina); and Elize Maia and Thâmela with bronze in the Tlaxcala Challenge (Mexico).
“It was very special to win this tournament in Doha. We work hard, and we have a fantastic team, very committed. Winning is always wonderful and gives confidence to the upcoming matches in Europe, with two Elite tournaments and the World Championship,” said Carol in a note released by CBV.
