Brasília – Brazil is the country with the best Economic Climate Index (ICE), in a comparison with the 11 countries of Latin America. In October, the country ICE reached 7.4 points in a scale from 1 to 9. In July, the index recorded was 5.5 points.
This information is in the Economic Study for Latin America, a research that is the result of a partnership established between the Institute for Economic Research at the University of Munich (IFO) and Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV).
Disclosed today (19), the study reflects the opinion of specialists about the current situation and the economic expectations of their countries. This is the third time running that Brazil registers the highest figure for this rate. The lowest points the country got were in January this year (3.9 points), influenced by the financial crisis.
The two indices that make up the ICE, Current Situation Index (ISA) of Brazil of 6.4 points and the Expectation Index (IE), of 8.4 points. Peru is in second place, with 7 points, and Uruguay in third, with 6.3. According to the research, these countries have moved to the “boom” phase (great growth), in the October analysis, when compared to July.
In the last positions are Ecuador (3 points), Mexico (4.1 points) and Argentina (4.5 points), in the analysis for October, in a list of 11 countries.
The objective of the Economic Analysis of Latin America is to monitor and anticipate the economic tendencies, from information supplied quarterly by specialists in the economies of their respective countries. In October 142 specialists from 16 countries were researched.
According to FGV, the lack of confidence in the government policies, the lack of demand, the performance and inflation were the main problems detected by most of the 146 specialists heard for the research. In Brazil, the lack of competitiveness and the public deficit stood out.
