São Paulo – Moved by the dire situation in which Syria finds itself following the earthquake that devastated the country’s northern region, Arab community organizations in Brazil came together to launch the relief campaign Together for Syria [Juntos pela Síria].
The thousands of victims of the February 6 quake urgently need everyone’s solidarity and resources to support them in their recovery.
From February 13 to 24, the group will collect currency donations to purchase medication and hospital supplies immediately destined for Syria in coordination with the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“Syria really needs everyone’s solidarity, it has been suffering hardships for years, and the earthquake has added to all the challenges the country had been facing. This is the moment for the Brazilian Syrian community and Brazilians in general to demonstrate their solidarity with the Syrians,” said the president of the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC), Osmar Chohfi.
The Antiochian Orthodox Archdiocese, A Mão Branca Charitable Association, São Paulo’s Heart Hospital (HCOR), Cedar of Leanon Association, Lebanese-Brazilian Medical Association, ABCC, Club Homs, Clube Atlético Monte Líbano [Mount Lebanon Athletic Club], Esporte Clube Sírio [Syrian Sports Club], Federation of Muslim Associations of Brazil (FAMBRAS), Syrian-Lebanese Hospital, Mesquita Brasil and Antiochian Orthodox Brazilian Society have united in the effort.
