Brasília – The expenses of Brazilians on international trips should be record this year. According to forecasts by the Central Bank of Brazil, these expenses totalled US$ 16.5 billion, the largest in the historic series, started in 1947.
From January to November, expenses of Brazilians abroad totalled US$ 14.675 billion. Last month alone, they reached US$ 1.515 billion. Preliminary figures for this month, to date (21), show expenses of US$ 1.037 billion.
"Expenses are still on the rise due to growing income, the inclusion of new agents, social growth and to the behaviour of foreign trade," said the head of the Economic Department at the Central Bank of Brazil, Altamir Lopes.
Revenues by foreigners travelling to Brazil reached US$ 560 million in November. In the first 11 months of the year, these revenues totalled US$ 5.317 billion. This month, to date, they have reached US$ 379 million.
The Central Bank has increased forecasts for the international travel deficit (expenses of Brazilians abroad minus revenues from foreigners here) from US$ 10 billion to US$ 10.5 billion, in 2010, and from US$ 11.5 billion to US$ 12 billion next year.
