São Paulo – Brazil’s Foreign Affairs minister Carlos França hosted an Iftar dinner on Tuesday (12) for diplomats from Muslim-majority countries in the Itamaraty Palace in Brasília. The meal breaks the daily Ramadan fast. This year’s Ramadan started in April and runs till early May.
Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC) president Osmar Chohfi participated in the Iftar as a guest together with ABCC secretary-general & CEO Tamer Mansour from Egypt. The event was also attended by Brazilian congresspeople, ambassadors from Muslim countries, and Brazil’s Agriculture, Livestock and Supply minister Marcos Montes.
In its social media, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil explained that Ramadan is a time for reflection, charity and fraternity for Muslims. “This sense of community combines with Brazil’s tradition of being a country that welcomes all ethnicities, cultures and religions. Some 200,000 Brazilians are Islamic,” the Ministry wrote in its Twitter.
