São Paulo – Brazilian footwear exports in November surpassed pre-pandemic levels both in volume and sales. According to Brazilian Association of Footwear Industries (Abicalçados) data, 11.68 million pairs were shipped last month, generating USD 93.2 million in revenue.
Compared to last year’s same month, the volume increased 22.3% and revenue 74.5%. Concerning November 2019, before the pandemic, there was a 39% growth in volume and 33% in revenue.
In a release by Abicalçados, the organization’s president, Haroldo Ferreira (pictured above), highlighted footwear exports have been recovering strongly in the second half of 2021, with the progress of vaccination in the main international markets and the consequent diminishment of COVID-19.
According to him, the volume of shoes exported in 2021 is already higher than in 2019 in 77 destination countries among the 160 importing from Brazil. Ferreira also highlighted shipments of leather shoes, which have a higher added value, have risen, increasing the average price of Brazilian footwear abroad.
Year to date
The Brazilian footwear sector exported 110.77 million pairs from January to November, generating USD 805.7 million. There was a 31% expansion in volume and 34.6% in revenue compared to the same period in 2020. Compared to the same months in 2019, the growth was 5.6% in volume and 9.6% in revenue.
