São Paulo – Fruit growers, technicians and academics from the state of Rio Grande do Sul have just returned after a 10 day journey to Chile and Argentina where they went to see the techniques for harvesting fruits. The journey was organised by the Committee of Fruit Growers from Rio Grande do Sul and the State Programme for Fruit-growing (Profruta/Rio Grande do Sul). In Mendonza, Argentinean province visited by the group, more than 100,000 hectares are commercially cultivated for fruits, and 60,000 hectares are cultivated by wine producers. The province uses an irrigation system with water originated from glaciers. Many properties in Chile, the other country visited, also use irrigation systems. The journey started on the 27th of February and ended in the beginning of this week.
